You ask and we answer

Why is the Quito Process important?

As it is a phenomenon that crosses borders, no country should deal with human mobility on its own. For this reason, this technical multilateral space was born, seeking that the States of the region advance in the adoption and articulation of measures to manage the flow of refugees and migrants from Venezuela.

Why was it born?

The flow of refugees and migrants from Venezuela has become one of the world’s largest cases of human mobility and the largest in the region. The countries of Latin America and the Caribbean came together to provide non-binding technical responses through mechanisms, coordinated efforts, and joint actions.

Where did it originate?

The first meeting was held in Quito, Ecuador, on September 3 and 4, 2018, to "exchange information and good practices, with a view to articulating regional coordination with respect to the migration crisis of Venezuelan citizens in the region." From there, it receives the name of Process of Quito.
